The first weekend for Texas A&M baseball is in the books and it was a sweep of Elon for a 3-0 start to the 2025 college baseball season.

There was one glaring issue, and that’s the bullpen. With the loss of Chris Cortez and Evan Aschenbeck to the MLB, and Shane Sdao having surgery, plenty of questions needed to be answered. Michael Earley got his first glimpse of the relief pitchers in action now that the games count, and it was a mixed bag. Pitching coach John Kelly and Earley wanted to make it a point to see a lot of arms this weekend, especially with the amount of rain limiting some practices.

One pitcher who was noticeably missing this weekend was senior RHP Josh Stewart. During the College World Series, he recorded nine innings in five appearances with 12 strikeouts and a 3.00 ERA. When asked why he didn’t play during opening weekend, coach Earley informed the press that he was dealing with a shoulder injury but is close to being back on the mound.

“He’s really, really close and we just wanted to try to avoid him until we think he’s fully ready to go.”

Texas A&M will host McNeese on Tuesday, February 18th, at 6:00 p.m. CT. The game will air on the SEC Network.
