Following a busy week of wintry weather, another strong system will arrive Saturday bringing a wintry mix to steady to heavy rain. A sleet mix will likely arrive around noon for our southern counties, closer to 2pm for northern locations. A later arrival will limit wintry weather.
Otherwise, expect a cold rain for the day, heavy at times with some flooding issues. Likely a lull in rain after 9-10pm through most of the overnight hours as temperatures rise into Sunday morning. A second round of rain is expected late Sunday morning through early to mid-afternoon.
This system will bring an elevated flood threat with recent snowmelt, ice, and unstable trees. At least 1″-2″ of rain is likely through Sunday afternoon, locally higher amounts are possible.
As we dry out Sunday afternoon, the wind will increase behind our front. Down trees are very possible with some power outages with wind gusts 30-50 mph and saturated ground. Strongest gusts will likely occur late Sunday afternoon through the evening and overnight hours.
Rivers will still rise after the rain, are likely won’t crest until overnight into early Monday. Accumulating snow is also likely along and west or Route 220 in West Virginia back to the Alleghenies. A coating to two inches is possible along Route 220, with 2-5″ expected into the Alleghenies.
